Emma Rous' survey questions

Distributed by Representative Emma Rous to the NH House Education Committee subcommittee considering the issue of a survey to NH school superintendents as part of its study of retained 2009 HB 368.

Draft of possible questions for superintendents on homeschooling

Do you receive notifications on time? Approximately what percent are late or need to be called in?

How many homeschool students have been on probation in the last three years?
How many come off and continue to homeschool?
How many returned to school? (Did they need extra help to catch up to peers? Were they on a par with their peers in academic work? Beyond their peers?)

Is there enough information in evaluations to judge whether a child has made progress commensurate with their age and ability? Can you tell what subjects have been studied and what has been learned? How do you judge whether probation is warranted?

What percent use their portfolio as the basis for assessment?
Test scores? NECAP or national?
Other?

Approximately what percent take any regular school classes? Participate in extracurricular activities? Sports?

Does starting homeschool in high school pose different issues from starting in elementary school? Such as? (e.g. circumstances for starting? evaluations?)

What information do you report to DOE? Just numbers of students and grade level? Numbers on probation?
