New Hampshire Legislative Youth Advisory Council
Created in 2006, the NH LYAC is a statutory committee of the New Hampshire legislature. Serving as a link between young people and New Hampshire government, LYAC is a group of 19 high school and college students (from age 15-22) who are appointed from every county in the state. A state senator and representative are also appointed as members of the Council.
LYAC analyzes issues that pertain to New Hampshire youth, brings ideas to the legislature, advises the legislature, and promotes civic engagement among youth.
The Council generally meets once a month in Concord from September to May. Meetings are held on Sunday afternoons at 1 p.m. In addition to monthly meetings, Council members have the opportunity to attend special meetings with other organizations and councils. Students may also participate in annual forums that the Council holds, including an August forum for new members. Some LYAC members also choose to testify at public hearings for legislation on behalf of the Council. Want to learn more? Email firstname.lastname@example.org
