Coordinator’s Report
Results of the 2017-2018 election of New Hampshire Homeschooling Coalition representatives reveal a few changes in local support volunteers: Christina Knickerbocker is now the Manchester area (NHHC district 10) representative and Emilia Brown will take over Christina’s former position as NHHC secretary. Amy Zinck-Farkas is the new representative for the Keene area (district 2). Aimee Seiler will continue to offer support as a contact person for Portsmouth area (district 1) homeschoolers. Thank you to Barbara Roland and Aimee Seiler for their service to the homeschooling community, and congratulations to our new reps!
The 2017 NHHC Spring Workshop was held at the Nackey S. Loeb School of Communications in Manchester on Saturday, June 17. Approximately 40 attendees were engaged in lively small group discussions of rights and responsibilities, methods and materials, and tips and tricks pertaining to elementary, middle, and high school home education and college entrance. At the subsequent Coalition board meeting, ideas for a future curriculum open house were entertained; stay tuned for more details.

Free Journalism Camp
Franklin Pierce University’s Marlin Fitzwater Center for Communication and the New Hampshire Student Media Association (NHSMA) are offering a free residential workshop series on The Presidency and The Press for high school students. Students will stay on campus in the dorms from July 15-20, eat in the dining hall, and take a field trip to WMUR, Union Leader, and the N.H. Statehouse. Students will work with veteran CBS Radio White House reporter Peter Maer, and with Bruce Zanca, who served in the White House Press Office for three administrations, while learning about podcasting, 360-degree immersive storytelling, interviewing, and other communication skills. Lots of Summer Activities for Teens at Avenue A in Antrim
Avenue A Teen and Community Center in Antrim offers new summer programs for middle and high school students. High school programs include blues songwriting, TV production, and a creative writing club. Middle school programs include Bioinventor mini-camp, cooking,and pick-up basketball. There is also a cooperative game club, a chess club, and an evening of storytelling. Survey on Teaching Science to your Homeschooled Children
I am an intern at the New Hampshire Department of Education. I am also a former homeschooler. I have been given the assignment of sending out a survey to homeschooling parents to find what they need to feel confident in teaching science to their children. Learning History with Fine Arts in Manchester
F.A.I.T.H. (Fine Arts Integrated Through History) is a parent run co-op that meets in the Manchester area on Tuesday afternoons from September to April. F.A.I.T.H. is a Christ-centered, fine arts exposure program where history is taught as an individual subject as well as being integrated into music, art, and drama by paid instructors. Students are fully immersed in the time period as they do art projects, stage plays, and study music of the age. Classes for ages PK through high school are available.

Homeschool Soccer League
Homeschool soccer will begin in Derry September 12 and run every Tuesday at 1 p.m. for eight weeks.
Soccer is the world’s most popular sport. It requires very little equipment, provides great exercise, and has fairly simple and easy-to-understand rules. This homeschool soccer league encourages kids to learn and play the game in a fun, no-pressure environment.
Kids ages 7-12 will be split into different age groups. The goal is to give every player maximum playing time throughout the game while teaching basic elements of strategy and fair play through scrimmages and drills. Even children with no experience are welcome. We are also looking for parents interested in coaching.
A pizza party and trophy presentation will be held at the end of the eight weeks. To register, send your child’s name and age to Lori at polkadotsmoonbeams@comcast.net.
Homeschool Bowling
Homeschool bowling league begins in September at Lakeside Lanes on Candia Road in Manchester for any interested homeschooler ages 7 to 18; students will be divided into teams. $3.00 per game includes rentals. The league begins Friday, September 8 at 11 a.m. and goes for ten weeks with a pizza party and trophy presentation to homeschoolers who participate.
