Curriculum

Book club cookies

Choosing curriculum can actually be a lot of fun!

Think about your children and how they learn best, you will be able to decide which methods and materials you want to use. If a program doesn’t work as well as you hoped it would, you may want to explore other options. Scrapping an expensive curriculum early in the year is far less worse than struggling with it for months and souring both yourself and your child on the whole idea of homeschooling.

Here are curriculum suppliers and online programs (scroll down) that are used by many homeschoolers. Most families end up using a mix of materials (textbooks, an online course, group classes, and home designed study of a subject) and it changes with the ages of the children.

Although you can easily complete the academic part of homeschooling on your own, many homeschoolers enjoy getting together for classes. Support groups, organizations, and teachers offer classes, special interest activities, and tutoring around the state.
