The New Hampshire Homeschooling Coalition News November 2018 Volume XXX Number 3 🤪 Joke of the month Child: Why did the turkey cross the road? Mom: I don’t know. Child: It was Thanksgiving Day, and he wanted people to think he was a chicken! Happy Thanksgiving to all of our families! 🤪 NHHC Board Meeting Thursday, November 8, 6:00 to 9:00pm Elkins Public Library in Canterbury, NH. New Hampshire Homeschooling Coalition members are invited to the NHHC Board of Representatives meeting. We discuss what’s going on with homeschoolers in different parts of the state, any legislative news or information from the Home Education Advisory Council, and plan events. If you want more info or would like to attend, please contact the coordinator, Amy Gall, amyginnh@yahoo.com. Coordinator’s Report Now that we have settled into fall activities, I hope everyone is off to a great start with their school year. Up here in the North Country we have already seen snow (Mt. Washington is white!), and we’re looking forward to the winter-sports season. I’m sure we’ll see some of you on the slopes. We have had a large turnover of volunteers at the New Hampshire Homeschooling Coalition this year, and we are sad to see many of our longtime local support representatives move on. I would like to take a moment to recognize Abbey Lawrence, who has worn many hats for us over the years from HEAC representative to Coordinator to Newsletter Editor: Thanks so much, Abbey, for setting the bar high in home education and advocacy. Faye Grearson was a support group leader in the Hanover area for many years, and has retired from home education as her children have graduated. Karen Deighan has been a longtime volunteer in the Ossipee area, and has left us for a job with UNH Cooperative Extension (Go 4-H!). We are also saying goodbye to Jacquie Allman, Becky DelSignore, Christina Knickerbocker, Erica Sylvester, and the Seiler family. Thanks for all your hard work providing support to New Hampshire homeschoolers! We would also like to welcome a new group of volunteer support leaders who are willing to step up. Thank you, Paula-Marie Passen, for taking on our monthly newsletter in addition to serving as a support person in the Nashua area! Other new faces include Lori Trickel, Angela Kantz, Althea Barton, and Tikatia Morris. We look forward to working with you in support and advocacy. We still have openings for local support volunteers in the Seacoast, Littleton/Hanover, Sunapee, and Manchester districts. Serving as a volunteer with NHHC is a great way to bolster your resume for future education or employment prospects while giving back to the home education community. Please contact me if you are able to spare a few hours per month to help families get started on their own home education journeys. ~Amy Gall, Coordinator amyginnh@yahoo.com Derryfield School Invites Homeschoolers to Bye Bye Birdie–the junior version Thursday, November 1, 9:00-10:30am, Boettiger Theatre 2108 River Road, Manchester, NH GPS address 2226 River Road for the theatre and theatre parking lot The middle school will be performing Bye Bye Birdie.
