Education Committee Recommends Home Education Bill be Killed

February 20, the House Education Committee met in executive session on HB 1263, which would once again require that homeschoolers’ annual evaluations be submitted to their participating agency, and voted it ITL, inexpedient to legislate. This means they recommend the bill not be passed.  The bill now goes to the entire House of Representatives for a vote.  The House tends to vote the recommendation of the committee that studied the bill, with rare exceptions. Remember the New Hampshire Homeschooling Coalition cannot take a position on legislation.  We are a 501 (c)3 organization and have a wide range of members with varying opinions.

American Legion Boys State Program

The American Legion Boys State program has been held annually in New Hampshire since 1947. Boys State is a six-day “learn by doing” experience in the American way of government sponsored by the American Legion and held at Rivier University in Nashua, this year from June 24 to June 29.

The program encourages leadership both in the students’ schools and communities, and emphasizes the importance of being responsible citizens who make their votes count.   Students spend six days on a college campus, meeting other students from throughout the state, competing for scholarships, and earning three college credits awarded by Rivier University for successful completion of the program.

Information on program requirements and applications are available from high school guidance counselors or local American Legion Posts, or on the N.H. American Legion Boys State website at www.nhlegion.org.  The application deadline is June 1.
